Cheryl Denise Jones of Richmond, Va. departed this life February 2, 2011. She is preceded in death by her father John Williams and brother Monte Jones. She is survived by her mother Evelyn Jones; one sister Dianne Jackson (Melvin); one half sister Rhonda Godbold; one half brother Wayne Godbold; one aunt Catherine Blackwell of Ann Arbor, Michigan; three uncles David Jones of Nashville, Tennessee; Theodore and Ralph Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them a devoted Tanisha Hamlin.
She was educated in the Richmond City Public Schools and was a member of the 1974 graduating class of Thomas Jefferson High School. She graduated from Bennett College– Greensboro, North Carolina, where she was initiated as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She continued her education with additional studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. Cheryl was employed by Richmond City Public Schools as a Head Start Teacher at Blackwell Elementary School.
Cheryl was the kindest, most generous and loving person you ever want to meet. She never met a stranger, had a heart of gold, and would do anything for anyone. She had a beautiful smile that was contagious and would brighten your day. Her giving spirit, sense of humor, beautiful smile, love and dedication to her family and friends will be greatly missed.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at The Saint Paul’s Baptist Church, 4247 Creighton Road. Rev. Lance Watson, Senior Pastor. Rev. Alisa Johnson-Coy, Officiating. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45AM. A Public Omega Omega Service of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated will be held for family and friends, Tuesday, February 8, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home.
