"Convict," formerly of Richmond, departed this life April 1, 2012 in Jamaica, New York, where he lived for over 40 years. He was the son of the late George Edward and Bettie Walker Sears Janes. Ernest attended Richmond Public Schools. He loved sports, especially golf. While in high school at Maggie L. Walker, he won several golf trophies. Ernest started his first golf training for students, who wanted to excel in this sport. Ernest continued his education by attending Virginia Union University. He later enlisted in the Air Force. Ernest made his home in Jamaica, New York. He worked 40 yeas at St. Vincent Hospital, where he was a dedicated employee. Ernest is survived by his wife, Mary L. James; his son, Christopher; and a granddaughter, Kiana M. James, all of New York; four sisters, Mary J. Baker, Inez B. Holmes (Raymond), Burnett L. James and Betty J. Hicks, all of Richmond. Ernest is also survived by several nieces and nephews; and other relatives friends that include devoted childhood friends, Eugene H. Lewis of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Leroy and Welford Lewis of Richmond, Virginia. Funeral services were held April 5, 2012 at the J. Foster Phillips Funeral Home in Jamaica, New York.
