Smith, Departed this life July 26, 2012. Mrs. Elinor S. Smith (Mommie) of Richmond. Was born April 14, 1925 in the Navy Hill section of Richmond to the late William and Lucy Smith and was married to the late John S. Smith Sr. of Highpoint North Carolina. She loved our savior and was baptized at 5th Street Baptist Church under Dr CC Scott. Even as a youngster she enjoyed attending and participating in church activities including Sunday School, Baptist Training Union and Vacation Bible School. She was educated in the Richmond Public school system and was in one of the first classes to attend Maggie L. Walker High School. Upon locating to the West End, she joined Fifth Baptist Church. Fifth Baptist is where she raised her family and touched many lives. While in attendance, she was a member of the: Pastoral Selection Committee, Women’s Mission and a Sunday School Teacher. She was Co-Mother of the Year in 1978. She was also a member of the Royal Order of the Tents and the Garden Club. She leaves to cherish her memory dedicated and committed sister, Mary E. Smith; sons, Garland Sr.(Mary), John Sterling Jr. (Christy), and Keith V. Sr. Smith (devoted friend Shelia), Loving, sister Gwendolyn S. Fitzgerald (David) and loving brother, Aubrey L. Smith, Sr. (Janice); 7 Grandchildren: Charita Rogers (Rodney), Garland Jr., Nicole, Chanelle, Keisha and Keith Jr. Smith and Erica Price. 7 Great-Grandchildren: GarTavish, Chanay, Jai’Na Smith, JaMiyah and Jamaal Price, Malachi and Maliyal Rogers, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The sons would like to express their extreme gratitude to her dedicated caregiver, cousins and all who assisted with the care and comforting of their mother “Our Everything”. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30PM Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11AM at Fifth Baptist Church, 1415 W. Cary Street where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Earl Brown (Pastor) off. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45AM Saturday. Online condolences can be made at www.jenkinsjr.com.
