Departed this life September 20, 2008. Deacon Leon Hicks, Sr. of Richmond. He is a retiree from the City of Richmond Nursing Home and Retreat Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Samuels Hicks; four daughters, Margaret Connor, Brenda Scott, Yolanda Hicks and Crystal Reid; four sons, Leon Jr., Julius, Carl Wendell and Robert Hicks; 17 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Allen, Mary Snead and Gloria Turner; five brothers, Major Sr., James, Theodore, Earl, and Douglas Hicks; one uncle, Jack Smith; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; two daughters-in-law, Sandra and Sheila Hicks; two sons-in-law, James R. Connor and Kevin W. Reid; six sisters-in-law, Jessie Batchelor, Helen, Gloria, Delores, Ruby, and Katrina Hicks, four brothers-in-law, Walter Turner, Oliver Stith Sr., Felix and Carl Samuels and other relatives and friends. He was a U. S. Army veteran. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Funeral services will be held Thursday 12 noon at Hood Temple A. M. E. Zion Church, 16 W. Clay Street where remains will lie in state one hour prior funeral time. Dr. Kevin McGill(pastor). Rev. Frank Lomax(pastor of First Union Baptist Church, Crozier, Va.) off. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the church 11:45A.M. Thursday.
