Burruss, Departed this life February 2, 2009. Charles W. Burruss of Richmond. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Thelma J. Burruss; one daughter, Muriel B. Gumbs; a devoted cousin, Elaine B. Landrum, lifelong friends, the Harry Harris family, the Nuckols family and a host of nieces and nephews, among them Robin Renee Walston and Lorine Jackson and other relatives and friends. He was a member of Silver Trowel #267(Prince Hall Affiliated), the Astoria Beneficial Club, VFW- Arthur Williams Post 10654 and the Carillon Civic Association. He was a World War II army veteran where he received a Purple Heart. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30PM on Thursday. Funeral services will be held Friday 1P.M. at Sixth Baptist Church, 400 S. Addison Street where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Dr. Yvonne Bibbs(pastor) off. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Family, friends and organizations assemble at the church 12:45PM Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sixth Baptist Church.
