Departed this life April 6, 2009. Deacon Harold E. Sims Sr. of Richmond. He is survived by his wife, Vernell Sims; one son, Harold E. Sims Jr.; one daughter, Cheryl E. Sims; six grandchildren, Tyneca Sims-Jefferson, Nadia Sims, Dr. Tiffany Morris, Crystal Bloomfield, Quandras Sims and Ja’net Forte; eleven great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma S. Collins; two brothers, Leon E. and Adolph A. Sims; two aunts, Susie Gorham and Alma Simmons; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, among them a devoted nephew, Rev. Timothy M. Collins; one daughte-in-law, Bernadine Mitchell; four sisters-in-law, Louise & Alvah Sims, Mary L. McLeod and Nelly Webb; six brothers-in-law, Alvin E. Collins Sr., Alvin China and Tim Cook, John, David and Harrison McLeod and other relatives and friends. He was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Midlothian, Virginia. After serving faithfully and honorably, he retired from the US Army as Command Sergeant Major. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30PM on Friday. Funeral services will be held Saturday 11AM at St. Paul’s Baptist Church-South, 700 E. Belt Blvd. where remains will lie in state one hour prior funeral time. Dr. Lance Watson(pastor). Dr. Eugene Brown(eulogy). Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Family, friends and organizations assemble at the church 10:45AM Saturday.
