Ernestine Smoot

Departed this life May 3, 2016. Mrs. Ernestine D. Smoot, age 86, of Richmond. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Smoot and one son, Earl H. Stewart Jr. She is survived by three daughters; Earlene S. Smith, Doris Taylor(Charles) and Linda Thaniel; four sons; William and James Stewart, Almus Akins, and Joseph Thornton; 16 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; three sisters; Barbara Harris, Evalyn Page and Ann Parker; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; one sister-in-law, Waddell Venable; and other relatives and friends among them a devoted companion, John Almond. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30PM Monday. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 12 noon at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1902 Rosewood Avenue where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Michael Moore(pastor) off. Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends assemble at the church 11:45AM Tuesday.
