Hill-Murray, Beverly Arnold, departed this life on November 25, 2016. Beverly was born in New York City, New York January 8, 1948 to the late Charles P. Hill and Ruby S. Hill (née Boone). Beverly attended New York City public schools and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. She later attended North Carolina A&T College in Greensboro and ultimately graduated from Norfolk State University with a B.A. in English. She married Edward W. Murray and had two daughters, Julie and Lisa. She worked for the Virginia Department of Corrections in various positions for forty-two years and most recently served as a manger in the Compliance and Accreditation Unit. Beverly’s beauty was undeniable and exuded from the inside out. She was a loving mother and grandmother who adored her family, immediate, extended and the friends who became family. Her resilience and upbeat demeanor was a source of strength for so many. She loved Jesus and her faith in God sustained her in good times and bad.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie Richardson and C. Lisa Babb; her husband, Edward Murray; two granddaughters, Beverly Marie Richardson and Grace Elizabeth Babb; one aunt, Anne Lambert; three uncles; Walter Boone, Stewart Boone, and Leroy Boone; a host of nephews and cousins; one son-in-law, Steven Babb; and other relatives and friends among them Tracey Townes, who was like a son. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue. Viewing will be held on Thursday December 1, 2016 from 10:00am – 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held Friday 12:00 pm at Faith Landmarks Ministries, 8491 Chamberlayne Road where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time. Rev. Donte Wheeler. Interment private. Family and friends assemble at the church at 11:00am.
