Tamar M. Meekins, 55, a Deputy Attorney General for the District of Columbia and a Howard University law professor died on Sunday, Feb.19, at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. A native of Richmond, VA., Meekins earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and her law degree from the University of Virginia. She launched her legal career in the District of Columbia and went on to become a decorated attorney and beloved professor. Meekins is survived by her sister, Harolyn; niece, Leah Shelby Meekins-Ballance(husband, Joshua Ray Ballance);great-niece, Layla Julia Meekins-Ballance and great-nephews, Jordan Ray and Trent Julian Meekins-Ballance. A viewing will be held on Wed March 1, 2017 from 11-12:30pm with service to follow at 1pm at Joseph Jenkins Funeral home Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery located at 1400 S Randolph St, Richmond, VA 23220.
