Mrs. Mary Fannie Hairston (Paschal) Greene, age 89 formerly of Montrose Avenue, daughter of Jacob E. (deceased 1970) and Mary (Garland) Hairston (deceased 1990) transitioned quietly on February 22, 2017 in Richmond, Virginia. Mary will join her parents, where they will rest in peace together in Riverview Cemetery. A devoted Catholic, long-time member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church, the first Catholic institution for African Americans in the South, and graduate of Van De Vyver High School. She attended Howard University and graduated from Wilberforce University, Wilberforce, Ohio, Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work. She lived in Dayton, OH for many years working in her chosen profession of early childhood education, adult and children’s services, retiring as a senior supervisor from the Department of Social Services in Richmond, VA on August 27, 1990 after more than 30 years combined of caring, devoted exemplary service.
She was preceded in death by her son, Louis Franklin Paschal, Jr. (Delores) age 22, 1970 grandson Ruben Anthony Paschal (1970) Dayton, Ohio; former husband Louis Franklin Paschal, Sr. July 1976, NY, NY and LeRoy M. Greene; beloved sister Mae Cile Pettiford (October 26, 2005, NY, NY); dear sister-in-laws Lille Paschal Carroll (Frederick), Helen Paschal King (Charles), Sarah Paschal Williams, Barbara Paschal Hildreth, Irene Paschal Wims (Roland) brother-in-laws John (Jan) Paschal, and Green, Jr. (Therese) Paschal.
She leaves to cherish her memory two loving daughters, Angela Greene (Kenneth Kobrick) and Sharmon Paschal Thornton, grand daughter Keeauna Thornton, Great Grandson Jacob E. Thornton; niece Benay Pate-Rodriguez and sons Aaron and Evan Rodriguez; a host of loving nieces and nephews (Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, Baltimore, MD, Hot Springs, Arkansas, Atlanta, Georgia, Arlington, Tennessee, Falls Church, VA, CA); childhood life-long friend Audrey Britt (Harold), dear friends Ruth Johnson of Richmond, VA, Iris Jackson, Fran Ferber of Arlington, VA and Vivian Reese, Las Vegas, Nevada.
