Bernard Lewis Jones, Jr. went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 20, 2017. He was a devoted husband to his bride of 40 years, Addie Wyatt Jones. He was born on April 22, 1951 to the late Bernard Lewis Jones, Sr. and Lozalia Banks Jones. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Bernard was educated in Richmond City Public Schools; and upon graduating he attended Virginia Union University for several years. Some years later he earned a B.S. degree in History from Mary Baldwin College.
Bernard lived his life with a quiet demeanor and a reserved personality. His passion for computers, photography, and politics were focal points of his conversation. He could take a computer apart and put it back together. However, he wasn’t very keen on teaching you how to work the computer; instead he would tell you to “take a class.”
Bernard’s passion for computers landed him several jobs as a computer engineer (Robertshaw, Invensys, and Schneider Electric). Schneider Electric selected him to travel to Sweden and share his knowledge with the Swedes who would eventually take over his job. He retired in 2014.
Also, Bernard was part owner of the “The Ardent Reader” bookstore in Downtown Richmond. He and Addie were longtime members of the Astoria Beneficial Club. Glen Allen Cultural Arts Center and Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens displayed some of his photos. Also, he has an online website (Hylundphotograhy.com) with many of his award-winning photos.
