Departed this life May 14, 2017. Johnnie C. Oats born in Clinton, NC and of Gum Spring. VA . He was preceded in death by brother, William Oates and grandchild Zakia Oates. He is survived by wife, Mary J. Oats; eight children; Deborah Underwood, RaTasha Oats(Monroe), Johnnie and Byran Oates, Barbara H. Harris, Alexander, Kenneth, Tyrone, and Earl Jr. Hicks; 25 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; three sisters; Joyce Jones, Gwendolyn Presley and Pernella Peterson; three brothers; Robert, James and Jesse Oates; five daughters-in-law; Kerri Oates, Charnell, Jessica, Alice and Mary Hicks; three sons-in-law; Reggie Underwood, Robert Monroe and George Harris Jr.; sister-in law, Mary A. Oates; brother-in-law, Avon Jones; several nieces, nephews and cousins and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home 2011 Grayland Ave. where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30pm Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 12PM Thursday at All Saints Episcopal Church 8787 River Road. Family and friends assemble at the church 11:45AM Thursday.
