WILLIAMS, Deacon George Thomas Sr., departed this earthly life and peacefully entered into eternal life at the McGuire Veterans Hospital on Monday, June 7, 2010 at 3:59 p.m. He was born in Lunenburg County on December 22, 1928 to the late Thomas and Pinkie Williams. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lucy C. Brandy, Marie Hilliard and Rosa Robinson; and one brother, Robert Williams. George accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Lunenburg County. He later met and married Gracey Harris and to that union three children were born. After moving to Richmond, he joined Riverview Baptist Church. While at Riverview, George became very active in church and was a member of the Male Choir and a member of the Deacon Ministry for over 40 years. While in office, he also served as chairperson. He was also the church sexton for five years. George was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea. Past Master Williams was a member of Henrico Lodge #41 Prince Hall Jurisdiction of Virginia. He was employed for over 20 years and retired with the Dickerson Leaf Tobacco Company. He later returned to work at First Union Bank until he later retired. He enjoyed fishing and singing, along with his love for biking on his Harley Davidson. He leaves to cherish his loving and devoted memory of his family, his wife of over 55 years of marriage, Gracey; two daughters, Patricia Davis of Baltimore, Md. and Georgette Williams (John) of Chesterfield, Va.; one son, George Thomas Williams Jr. of Richmond; six grandchildren, George III, Melvin, Montrese, Steven, Patrick and Da'John; one great-grandchild, Deaughn Williams; two sisters, Thelma Nelson of Richmond and Mary Fitzgerald of Boston, Mass.; one brother, Otis Williams (Deborah) of Kenbridge, Va.; a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at 12 noon at Riverview Baptist Church, 2604 Idlewood Ave., Richmond, Va. 23220. Rev. Dr. Stephen L. Hewlett, pastor, officiating.
