Dr. Laura Rosily Dawson, 74, of Midlothian, Virginia, departed this life April 22, 2018. She retired as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Voorhees College as well as Virginia Union University. She also served as Associate Director of Federal Relations at Howard University. She was a member of Third Street Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church as well as a member of the Links, Inc., Richmond Chapter. Dr. Dawson is preceded in death by two daughters, Lisa Weldon and Lavinia Dawson; one son, Randall Dawson; and her parents, Earl and Mabel Greene. She is survived by her husband, Leonard E. Dawson; one daughter, Stephanie Dawson Powell (Art); one son, Michael Dawson (Donna); two grandchildren, Alexis Dawson and Christopher Jarrette; one great grandchild, Taylor Armstrong; one sister, Rayetta Drew (George); a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; one sister-in-law, Josephine Taylor; brother-in-law, Horace Dawson Jr.; and other relatives and dear friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, Richmond, VA. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Third Street Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 614 N. Third Street, Richmond, VA, with Rev. Reuben J. Boyd (pastor) officiating. Viewing will take place at the church between noon and 12:45 p.m. on Friday. Interment will take place Monday, April 30 at noon at Washington National Cemetery, 4101 Suitland Road, Suitland, MD.
