Dr. Wilbert L. Jenkins

Departed this life January 13, 2025. Dr. Wilbert L. Jenkins, age 84, of Richmond. He was a retired Administrator for the Richmond Public Schools, serving in numerous roles including being Director of Instruction and also a Principal. Among his other educational contributions, he was an Assistant Superintendent at Richland County Public Schools in South Carolina. He was also an author. His last position was that of being a Senior Advisor to the President at Virginia Union University. 

 He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Cunningham Jenkins. He is survived by two daughters, Velma Jenkins Tillar (Marvin) and Jennifer Jenkins Copeland; four grandchildren, Marcus Tillar (Candice), Shannon Tillar Thompson (Jeremiah) and Chauncey & Carter Copeland; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Charles Jenkins and Melvin Jenkins, esquire; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; one sister, Ola Mae Henderson; other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where the family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19th from 4:00PM to 6:00PM. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 20th at 11AM, at First Union Baptist Church, 3510 Dill Road where Dr. Jenkins was a Deacon. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral time. Rev. Pierce A. Williams(pastor) officiating. Interment, Roselawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends assemble at the church at 10:45AM on Monday.
