Eunice B. Harden, 82, of Richmond, departed this life January 6, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Aurelius and Minnie Brown; two sisters, Berthel B. Barnes and Inez B. Clegg; and two brothers, Aurelius Brown, Jr. and William Brown. At an early age, Eunice professed her faith in Christ by joining Ebenezer Baptist Church. She graduated from Armstrong High School (Class of ’54), attended Hampton Institute for two years, and received her B.A. in Education from V.C.U. She retired from Richmond Public Schools after 26 years of service. She was a member of the National Education Association. She is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Eugene C. Harden. She was a loving mother and matriarch to one daughter, Ivy H. Dowdy (Leon); two sons, Jeffrey E. Harden and Jay C. Harden (Olivia T.); six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Also cherishing her memory are two sisters, Lucille B. Roane and Hannah B. Jiggetts; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where the family will receive friends on Thursday, January 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11 at 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 216 W. Leigh Street. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment: Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the church at 12:45.
