Departed this life January 1, 2021. Mrs. Irene C.B Dickens, age 73, of Richmond. She is preceded in death by her sons, Charlie Dickens, Jr and Christopher D. Dickens. She is survived by her husband, Charlie Dickens, Sr, one daughter, Denise Lightfoot and three sons,,,,  Jessie "Batman" Dickens, Sean L. Bates, Dorian D. Bates;  ten grandchildren, Toshimeen Thorton, Tavares Thorton, David D’andre Bates, Katlyn DeGraffenreidt, Mia Dickens, Kristina Dickens, Anessa Bates, Jahleek Charlie Dickens, Omari Dickens and Ronnie Dickens, nine sisters, Hattie Bates, Valery Bates-Brown(Michael), Faye Bates, Beatrice Gordon, Beverly Monroe, Mary Jeffries(Yadi), Bernadette Bates, Barbara Bates, and Brenda Bates; one Brother, Alvin A. Bates Jr.; three aunts, Josephine Lipscomb, Barbara McPhail, and Carolyn Arrington; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends. Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 PM Thursday. Graveside services will be held Friday at 1 PM at Oakwood Cemetery Interment Oakwood Cemetery.
