John W. Harris

Departed this life November 12, 2018.  Dr.  John Harris Jr., age 85, of Richmond. He retired from the Richmond City Police Department.  He was a professor emeritus at Southside Virginia Community College.   He is survived by his wife, Edith Harris;  two daughters,  Joni Moore and Darsetta Coleman;  three sons, Kelvin Harris(Wilma), Randall Harris(Karen) and Raymond Johnson(Audrey);  four grandchildren, Ashley Harris, Malick Jarrett, Nelson Harris and Nia Harris;  one sister, Patricia Lyons(Edward);  one brother, Edward “Hamp” Harris(Erma);   a host of nieces, nephews and cousins;  sisters-in-law, Ocelia Featherston(Clinton) and Evelyn Williams;  brother- in- law, William  Harris(Hazel) and Floyd Harris(Edmonia);  and other relatives and friends among them a godson, William “Billy” Steele.  Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins Jr.  Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where the family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 to 7:30PM.  Funeral services will be held Saturday 11AM at Providence Park Baptist Church, 468 E.  Ladies Mile Road where remains will lie in state one hour prior to funeral time.  Dr.  Jerome Ross(pastor) off.  Interment Roselawn Memory Gardens.  Family and friends assemble at the church 10:45AM Saturday.
