Larry Jerome Bland passed away peacefully and surrounded by friends and family on Friday November 13, 2020. Larry had a very distinguished career that took him around the globe, spreading his talents and his love for music. He was educated in the Richmond Public School system and attended Maggie Walker High School, and graduated from Virginia State University with a degree in Vocal Music Education. He joined Second Baptist Church (West End) at an early age where he was very involved in the music ministry. Larry was the creative director and leader of the Larry Bland and the Volunteer Choir. He also worked professionally in the legal and entertainment industries with organizations such as the Discovery Channel.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew James Bland, Sr. and Sara Bland Parker; brother, Andrew James Bland, Jr., and sister, Marion Bland Davis. He leaves to cherish him one aunt, Barbara Jean Bracey (Thomas); nephews, Prince L. Davis (Karen), Keith L. Davis and Pierre Jackson; godsons, Daemione M. Hooker (Tiffany), DeVan M. Hooker, Jayden T. Robinson; beloved and devoted friend and confidant, Veola Thomas; The Volunteer Choir Family; and a host of other family members and friends
Remains rest at Joseph Jenkins, Jr. Funeral Home, 2011 Grayland Avenue where he can be viewed 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Funeral services will be private.
