MARTHA A. HOLMES ROGERS was born in Gloucester County, Virginia, on July 26, 1936 to Mary Lou Sparks and Forrest Edward Holmes. She departed this life on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024. She was the only child. Martha, her father and his wife moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1947. She joined Concord Baptist Church, in Brooklyn. their pastor, the late Rev. Dr. Gardner C. Taylor. She graduated from Girl High School, in Brooklyn. She graduated as a Stenographer. Attended Pace College, in Lower Manhattan for two years. She finally found her dream job, at “The First National City Bank of New York” in Manhattan.

 

On July 18, 1959, she married Bernard Lancaster Rogers. They were married for 62 ½ years. Bernie was in the United States Air Force for 20 years. They traveled. They had three children: Biff L., Barry L., and Belinda L. Rogers. Also, three beautiful grandchildren: Bianca L., Brooke L., and Bryson L. Rogers, and my gorgeous great granddaughter, Milani Sharron 

Rogers-Bowser.

 

December 2006, She joined St. Peter Baptist Church, Glen Allen. There, she joined the Diaconate Ministry; Seniors Ministry and Community Care Ministry. She loved her Church.

 

JESUS called Bernie home, on March 29, 2022. He was her soul mate. Martha is survived by her three children, Biff, Barry and Belinda. Three grandchildren, Bianca, Brooke and Bryson. Three sisters-in-law: Claudette R. Chrisp-Anne T. Rogers-Carrie Rogers: One brother-n-law; Milton T. Jackson, Sr. Six first Cousins and other relatives and friends, among them are the “Auxiliary of the Military Retirees’ Club”, Muriel Meredith – Elizabeth Meade – Doris Brooke
