Nyemah Sabbakhan was born on May 1, 1947, as Doris Ann Greg, in Marion, South Carolina to Esther Paige and Godfrey Gregg. She was raised by her grandmother, Lily Gregg. She was the oldest of twelve children.
Nyemah attended high school and college in Marion, South Carolina. She would eventually meet her future husband, Robert McCoy. They married in 1968. From their union, they produced six beautiful children. In 1982, they decided to change their family name from McCoy to Sabbakhan based on religious beliefs. Doris McCoy became Nyemah Sabbakhan and Robert McCoy became Rabb Sabbakhan. She devoted the majority of her life to caring for her family and raising her children. Her love for her immediate and extended family was demonstrated through her consistent and genuine efforts to stay connected with her loved ones, including siblings, aunts, uncles, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
After proudly raising a loving family, Nyemah concluded her career as an administrative professional with MCV Medical Hospital. She retired in 2016.
Nyemah had an affinity for gardening, flowers and herbs and spent countless hours in her garden. She also cherished her time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Rabb Sabbakhan, a granddaughter, Adr and three siblings; She is survived by her mother, Esther Collier; six children, Shawn Sabbakhan (Michelle), Rabbiah Sabbakhan (Camille), Shari Muhammed (Kenneth), Sri SathyaRadha Ananthanarayanan Yerushalayim, Khalah Sabbakhan and Rama Sabbakhan (Marjay); nine siblings, Donald, Rosalyn, Richard, Robert, Geraldine, Karen, Godfrey and Camile; and a host of other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family, friends and loved ones.
