Urain Shields

Departed this life April 1, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julia M. Shields. He is survived by two sons, Walter R.(Janet) and Raymond C. Shields(Opal); Five grandchildren, Olando Fuller, Julius Bethea, Sebastian W. Shields and Sheldon and Janelle Richards-Shields; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. Urain Sebastian Shields - Eulogy Urain Sebastian Shields, youngest of 3 children, was born on October 28, 1926 in Henderson, NC to parents, Walter Richard and Martha Lawrence Shields. He enlisted and served in the US Army during WWII in the western Pacific before graduating from Hampton Institute (University) with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. While at Hampton Institute, he met and was eventually married to Julia W. Mosley from Farmville, VA, in Richmond, VA on November 22, 1951. They shared 48 years together prior to her passing in 1999. He worked as an architect at Virginia Union University prior to retiring after many years from Robertshaw Controls Co. as a mailroom supervisor. He lovingly served, along with his wife, at Ephesus Seventh Day Adventist Church in Richmond, Virginia as Sabbath School Teacher and Elder. Both were loved by their church family for being regular volunteers in community service and visiting the sick and shut-in. He was a loving father and mentor to two sons, Walter and Raymond, and later to grandchildren, Olando, Julius, Sebastian, Sheldon, and Janelle. His living legacy is a love for family, friends, neighbors, and his creator God. The family would like to leave biblical text in memory of Urain S. Shields. John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.”
