Our Founder

Fulfilling a childhood dream, Joseph Jenkins Jr. helped thousands of families with the funeral and burial arrangements for their loved ones for more than forty five years. As a young child, he lived near the Holland Brothers Vault Works and became friends with J. Montague Holland, one of the owners. Mr. Holland often would take young Joe with him on trips around the state to deliver burial vaults. These trips had an influence on his decision to enter the funeral business. Mr. Holland introduced his young friend at various funeral homes in hopes of finding him a job. John B. Neblett Funeral Home hired him when he was about 12 years old, and he worked there until he graduated from Maggie L. Walker High School. After high school, he attended the Atlanta College of Mortuary Science and returned to Richmond to serve a two-year apprenticeship at Neblett Funeral Home under the tutelage of Oscar F. Howard. Joseph Jenkins Jr. was a mentor to many young aspiring funeral directors and embalmers. His goal of perfection and professionalism was evident in his advice to these young people, as well as in his day to day involvement with his clients and his community. Helping other people was his number one priority. During his career, Mr. Jenkins had served on many civic and regulatory boards, including the State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers, the board of the Virginia Department of Health Professions, the Richmond Funeral Directors Association and the Virginia Morticians' Association.
